DDA Layouts for Washroom and Toilet Cubicles & Toilet Cubicle Panels
DDA Compliance is an important part of toilet cubicle layout and must be considered in washroom design. There are a number of typical toilet, shower and washroom cubicle layouts, please refer to our DDA Cubicle Layouts which help explain the legislation which may affect you when specifying your project. Options include enlarged cubicle and ambulant cubicle.
Every washroom which contains 4 or more cubicles must contain at least 1 enlarged cubicle. An enlarged toilet cubicle should be a minimum of 1200mm wide and have an outward opening door to ensure maximum accessibility. The cubicle should be complemented by grab rails in both vertical and horizontal orientations.
It is a requirement that a cubicle which caters for ambulant disabled users is available in every single sex washroom. Should there only be a single cubicle in the washroom this should be ambulant, it must be a minimum of 800mm wide, have vertical and horizontal grab bars and an activity space of 750mm in front of the wc pan.
LRV (Light Reflectance Value) – It is also a requirement that different elements of the washroom cubicles, e.g. Doors and Pilasters, should have a difference in their Light Reflectance Value of a minimum of 30 points. Black absorbs all light and so has an LRV of 0 points, Pure white reflects all light and therefore has a LRV of 100 points.
